Welcome to the Men Who Dare
For Fifty-eight years, the Men Who Dare (MWD) organization has been providing financial assistance to college/trade school bound students who have limited resources to achieve their higher education goals. It all started in 1959 when a group of men at the First Baptist Institutional Church of Hamtramck noted the difficulties of a young man, a member of the same church, matriculating at Highland Park Junior College. The young man was unable to secure financial assistance and thus unable to continue his education. To help the young man with his tuition, a group of men raised funds by selling barbeque dinners. Because of the favorable outcome, the group decided in September of 1959 to form an organization devoted to helping young people secure financial aid to further their education. The original membership consisted of fourteen (14) courageous men. The name of the organization, "Men Who Dare" (MWD), was selected after a great deal of thought because it reflected the daringness of the undertaking at hand.
To fund the scholarship program today, the Men Who Dare sponsors various annual events, such as the:
• Mother’s Day Raffle
• Scholarship Golf Outing
• Black & White Scholarship Ball
In addition to the above fundraisers, The Men Who Dare, Inc. receives generous donations from friends, partners and sponsors.
Our scholarship program is open to local youths (male and female).
More than ever, higher education is financially challenging for many students and their family. Together we can make a difference!
